That Perfect Job Fit

A good job fit can mean the difference between happiness in one's work and misery. Job fit should be considered both from the perspective of an employer and an employee. There are many different techniques and processes that can be used to measure one's match to the job position.

The foundation of career satisfaction is built by matching your innate talents and personality with the nature of the profession. Without a proper job match, it is difficult or impossible to be dependable, successful and productive over both the short and long term due to a lacking in the right attributes, charisma or dynamics.

Use a systematic, holistic process to find out "who you are" and "what moves you." This system is called job fit. With job fit, you will analyze your past work experiences and find common elements that you loved and elements that you detested. Choose a reputable aptitude, personality, values assessment that comes with individualized, career-related interpretation and/or guidance.

A job fit looks specifically at a person's:

· Aptitude to perform the job
· Desire, motivation and interest in doing the job
· Special personality characteristics to be successful in the job

These are the characteristics that a person must have to competently and productively accomplish their occupation. the retention rate for new people hired with personality trait matching is considerably higher than that of people hired without it.

There are also numerous health benefits to finding the best job fit. It has been studied that the healthiest people are people with demanding jobs (due to complexity and/or responsibility for others), who are permitted large quantities of autonomy and confidence, and indulgences in very little self-blame.

Conversely, the least healthy are those high-powered employees who have a little confidence and an inclination for self-blame when things do not work out as desired. A lack of proper job fit can therefore not only make people unhappy and unproductive, but unhealthy with high stress levels and accordingly, weakened immune functions.

A key personality trait to observe with regards to job fit, the ability of a person to manage different amounts of stress.

How, therefore, does one know if a person is a match for the available occupation? There are several kinds of testing available. No matter which method is chosen, it is important to have some form of job fit testing. It will pay off for both the employer and the employee in the long run.

Of course, it is widely recommended by most experts that a professional is hired to evaluate the candidate, as someone inexperienced is not as likely to finish with as accurate and effective results.

Knowing the strengths and weakness of an individual, will prevent one from attempting to match the wrong person or hire someone to perform a task that is not within their capabilities. Knowing a person's limitations will prevent one from matching a person to a job that they cannot perform, where they could put themselves or others in danger, they will be unhappy and unproductive.

Such is the importance of knowing one's personal strength and weakness. Creating the most effective, productive, healthy and happy team depends on hiring the right people. Job fit can be your tool to accomplish this in the most effective way.
